Joomla – Password Protect PDFs on Membership Site

Background: Annual Conference has wrapped up. Allow attendees to download this year’s presentations (in PDF format) from Conference’s membership site.

Approach: Create unique User account so only this year’s attendees can access PDFs (both members and non-members). A special Membership Plan also needs to be created (otherwise visitors won’t be able to log in and access PDFs).

Extensions used: RSFiles. PayPlans.

Method:

Create custom User account (+ User Group + Viewing Access Level) for 2016 AEP Conf Attendees

Create PayPlans “forever” membership Plan for 2016 AEP Conf Attendees (then Apply custom User to this custom Plan)

Create RSFiles Group called “2016 AEP Conference”

Create RSFiles Folder called “2016 AEP Conference” (set all Permissions on FOLDER, and tick boxes for Permissions to be applied to all subfolders & subfiles)

Upload 17 PDFs to“2016 AEP Conference” RSFiles folder

Create Joomla Article and added RSFile code for “2016 AEP Conference” folder

Create hidden menu item called “2016 AEP Conference Presentations”

Create custom login module called “Login AEP Conference Presentations”; set to position “AEP-ModbottomUser1” (your theme’s position will be different); Menu Assignment: Hidden Menu tab: “2016 AEP Conference Presentations”
