Slow Loading Site on Google Chrome?
WooCommerce Product Category links were taking 15-20 seconds to load when clicked in the main menu in the Header. And 10 seconds to load when clicking Product Category link from the Shop page.
Solution: Delete Chrome’s cookies/site data for the particular site
1. Incognito Window (in Google Chrome): Test the Product Category link’s page load speed in Google Chrome’s Incognito Window.
This is my Product Category URL: https://www.everyfloorisadancefloor.com/product-category/dance-t-shirts
It only took 3 seconds to load in an Incognito Window. But in a normal Google Chrome Window it took 15-20 seconds to load .that same URL.
2. In a normal Google Chrome Window, confirm how slow the page loads after clicking the Product Category link:
- Google Chrome > Open your site > initialize Inspect (Chrome menu > View > Developer > Developer Tools) > Performance tab > Refresh page (⌘-R on Mac) > Click the Product Category link.
- The Performance tab will display how long the page took to load. Mine took 15-20 seconds.
3. Chrome Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies → See all site data and permissions
- Locate your website (eg: everyfloorisadancefloor.com) and click it. A drop-down of sub-items should appear, with everyfloorisadancefloor.com at the top of the sub-list.
- Click only the trash/delete icon to the right of your
everyfloorisadancefloor.comat the top of the sub-items list. - Do not delete the
paypal.com,stripe, hCaptcha, or other entries in the sub-items list.
4. Test to make sure the Product Category link now loads faster
Close existing Window tab > Open a new tab > Paste full Product Category URL (see example below) > Press Return (on Mac)
Product Category URL example: https://www.everyfloorisadancefloor.com/product-category/dance-t-shirts
Guesstimate how long it took for the page to load.
Then:
- Initialize Inspect (Chrome menu > View > Developer > Developer Tools) > Performance tab > Refresh page (⌘-R on Mac) > Click the Product Category link (in my case it’s in the main menu in the Header).
- The Performance tab will display how long the page took to load. After deleting the Google Chrome’s cookies/site data, my Product Category page took 1-3 seconds to load.
